House Chair, I move without notice:
That the House -
(1) notes that the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 November as World Television Day;
(2) further notes that this was done in recognition of the increasing impact television has on decision-making and its potential role in sharpening the focus on other major issues, including economic and social issues;
(3) recognises that the day highlights how communications have become one of today's central international issues, not only for its relevance to the world economy, but also for its implications for social and cultural development;
(4) acknowledges that television can educate great numbers of people about the world around them and can show us how much we have in common with our neighbours; and
(5) calls on all to recognise and appreciate the impact that television has had on our daily lives.
Agreed to.
