The ANC is committed to reversing the ills of the past and working to better the lives of our people. Recently 234 households in KwaZulu-Natal received cheques as compensation for forced land removals between 1977 and 1978.
Cremin land claimants received R54 650 each as compensation for lost land from the Uthukela District Municipality recently. The community filed the compensation claim in 1998 with the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, that approved their claim, and they were compensated with cash, as they requested.
Cremin, from where the people were removed by the apartheid government to make way for white-owned farms, is fertile land outside Ladysmith. Historical archives show that the people were subsistence farmers who lived by tilling the land and rearing livestock. The apartheid government resettled the community in the rocky and unproductive land of Section C in Zakheni. I thank you.
