House Chair, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on 10 December and is in commemoration of the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
2) further notes that the day is normally marked both by high-level political conferences and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human rights issues;
3) recognises that Human Rights Day promotes awareness of human rights issues around the world, and highlights the efforts of the United Nations to improve global human rights conditions; and
4) calls on all to help raise awareness on human rights and the importance of upholding these in their own communities.
Agreed to.
