Mr Speaker, the ANC this past weekend embarked upon a door-to-door campaign in the Western Cape. We were taken aback by the appalling conditions that our people have been subjected to by the current provincial government, yet we were not surprised.
On this occasion of the door-to-door visits in Mitchells Plain, mothers of children from Montrose Park asked us to inform the nation that the DA and its provincial government continues to close down the schools of their children.
They have pleaded with the ANC to prevail upon the Western Cape government to stop forcing their children to walk long distances, even cross dangerous railway lines and busy roads, to attend schools in Lentegeur and Beacon Valley in their search for an education.
Clearly, the DA doesn't care about the education of children, especially of the poor. It has aligned itself as a champion of the elite at the expense of the poor and the downtrodden.
The ANC regards education as one of our priorities and over the years we have delivered. Early childhood development facilities have increased, Grade R enrolment rates have doubled and the percentage of matric passes has increased because the ANC cares about children and the future of the country.
