Mr Speaker, I just want to respond to the two statements that were made about donkey sausages. Let me just say on that score that when we saw the report, I met with my colleagues the Minister of Health and the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and, as far as we are aware, there is no threat to human health from any of the meat products which are on sale in South Africa. [Interjections.] However, as the hon members have suggested, consumers have the right to know what it is that they are consuming - the National Consumer Act requires that that should be the case.
Some time ago, when we saw this incident in Europe, I think we became aware of the fact that what we are facing is the global value chains in the processed meat industries that are bringing imports from all kinds of places, mixing them up, and you get a final, processed meat product. The National Consumer Commissioner and his team were already investigating and engaging with companies around this. We are working towards issuing a new notice, in which it will be a requirement that there be accurate labelling of all meat products so that the animals that had been used in the production of those meat products are clearly indicated. South African consumers have the right to know what they are going to consume, and we are going to make sure that that information is provided. Thank you very much. [Applause.]
