Hon Speaker, renewable energy will play an indisputably important role in our energy diversification as a country. Soon we will turn the sod on the Sere wind farm and conclude the feasibility study for the concentrated solar plant in the Northern Cape. This will intensify and ensure that we proceed with our programmes to mix our energy generation as we attempt to reduce carbon-emitting power plants. We will also continue to intensify the solar water geyser programme.
With regard to Medupi, the hon member from the DA quotes my response to the question and doesn't conclude the response in his selective quotation. In that response I clearly indicated that there is nobody who is particularly delegated to Medupi but, as we had promised two years ago, we have established a unit that is capacitated with a chief director that focuses on the capital projects unit. The issue of whether it was two years later or earlier was not part of the selective and misleading quotation that the hon member cited.
We have taken action with regard to Hitachi, and the fact that they have approached the courts to seek respite is not really of our own making; however, Eskom has taken the necessary action.
So, perhaps it is not my head that we should start with but it is the dishonesty, or maybe - to use more parliamentary language - the selective and misleading quotation from the hon member. We are taking the necessary steps to ensure that Medupi comes online in December. As we have promised, heads will roll. [Time expired.] [Applause.]
