2.1.3 Challenges facing the airline South African Airways has been faced by challenges such as high airport taxes, landing, parking and handling related costs, lack of coordinated strategy from government, the cost of fuel, low fares, competition law, rand volatility, increasing competition from Middle East carriers, ageing and highly inefficient fleet, lack of innovative thinking, financial efficiency, aviation policy, shortage of skills and balancing state-owned carrier and viable commercial activity.
