Speaker, the ANC welcomes the appointment of the South African National Roads Agency Limited, Sanral, by the North West provincial government to roll out an infrastructure contract, after comparative analysis revealed that state funds were wasted on construction projects. The five-year contract is targeting main economic and social linkage roads covering 1 566km, costing an estimated R1 billion. The contract is encouraging and is progressive in the sense that Sanral is required to subcontract 80% of the work to local small, medium, and microenterprises, SMMEs, to clean the drainage system, fix potholes, apply fog sprays, and reseal the road. This is contributing towards job creation and will ensure delivery of quality roads within a reasonable budget and will also eliminate corruption associated with road construction. I thank you. [Applause.]
