Hon Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that UCT student and Nobel Laureate, Ms Chaeli Mycroft, took part in this weekend's Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour with friend and fellow student, Grant Kruger, to raise awareness on cerebral palsy and raise funds for the Chaeli Campaign;
2) further notes that despite the fact that Mycroft has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair bound, she and her teammate, Grant Kruger, completed the race in 5 hours, 29 minutes and 45 seconds, well within the cut-off time;
3) acknowledges that through her efforts and her dedication to social activism she continues to change perceptions about people with disabilities;
4) further recognises that Ms Mycroft has also been awarded the 2011 International Children's Peace Prize and in 2012 she became the first ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Laureate's medal for Social Activism;
5) recalls that she was the youth keynote speaker at the 2012 UNESCO Inclusive Education Conference in Paris;
6) recognises that Ms Mycroft's unparalleled zest for life continuously seeks to overcome new challenges beyond her physical limitations; and
7) congratulates her and her teammate, Grant Kruger, on this remarkable achievement as it serves as an inspiration to us all.
Agreed to.
