Hon Speaker, the ANC welcomes the dramatic decline in the number of cases of malaria in Limpopo province. Statistics indicate that there was a decline from 2 991 cases to only 848 cases notified during the past year. This decline is attributed to the ANC Limpopo government's malaria control intervention strategy, namely indoor residual spraying, as well as spray teams conducting spraying in all the areas affected by malaria.
Furthermore, the ANC government in the province has made it possible for all primary health care clinics to be fully equipped to deal with malaria patients at community level as well as making available malaria tests and treatment at all clinics. All hospitals are also prepared to deal with the more severe malaria cases. The ANC commends the initiative and believes that it will take us a step further in dramatically improving the life expectancy of our people.
Furthermore, the ANC calls upon citizens to take part in the campaigns to raise the awareness about malaria in their communities. I thank you. [Applause.]
