The ANC is committed to prioritising and improving teaching and learning environments in schools. Hence, it welcomes the allocation of R1,7 million by the ANC government in Mpumalanga to four districts for procuring school furniture before the end of March 2013.
The ANC believes that school furniture is a basic necessity geared to ensuring that teaching and learning take place in all our schools without any hindrance. The lack of furniture is one of the aspects that create challenges in the delivery of education.
Given that education is a societal issue, the ANC calls upon educators, learners, parents and communities to work together towards ensuring that the furniture in our schools remains in good condition. We also call on the ANC government in Mpumalanga to address the shortage of furniture in the province's schools with the urgency it deserves. [Applause.]
