Mr Speaker, the recent revelation about police corruption that we read about this past weekend is a worrying factor. The fact that we continue to see problems and revelations of one crisis after another around the conduct of the police and senior police officials is a worrying issue. We want to see action from government and from the Minister in particular around the restructuring of the police. The infighting that is taking place cannot be allowed to continue as it has the effect of lowering police morale. As these actions are taking place at the senior management level of the police, trust within the police is decreasing. We are calling upon the Minister of Police to take action.
Regarding the conduct of the National or the Provincial Commissioner, or any other police official whose conduct is found to be wanting in terms of the law, action must be taken. Such action must not necessarily be of such a nature that it paints the entire police service with the same brush. But we are worried that it will gravitate towards that end if no action is taken by government.
