CONGRATULATIONS TO SOUTH AFRICAN CHOIRS (Draft Resolution)

  • ← CONDOLENCES ON PASSING OF MS NADINE GORDIMER (Draft Resolution)
  • COMMONWEALTH GAMES OFFICIALLY OPENED IN GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (Draft Resolution) →
  • Dr G A Grootboom 25 Jul 2014 hansard

    Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:

    That the House -

    1) notes that several South African choirs recently took part in the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia;

    2) acknowledges that more than 450 choirs from 60 nations were judged by 80 jurors during the course of the competition;

    3) further acknowledges that the participating choirs from our country performed exceptionally well, and that there were several South African youth choirs that outperformed the competition;

    4) congratulates the Stellenbosch University Choir for winning the devotional category, the spiritual category and the mixed choirs category with 99%, the highest percentage ever achieved by any choir in this category;

    5) further congratulates the Southern Cape Children's Choir for being crowned the Musica Sacra champions and for winning gold in the children's choir category;

    6) applauds the University of Pretoria's Camerata for achieving an incredible 95.25% in the mixed choir category;

    7) further applauds the Tygerberg Children's Choir on winning double gold in the devotional singing category and the children's choir category; and

    8) thanks these choirs for flying the South African flag high and for once again showcasing the wealth of talent that we have in this country.

    Agreed to.
