Hon Deputy Speaker, when preparing for this debate, I cast my mind back to when I was a little boy, short of my seventh birthday, in 1994. On that day, I could see the faces of parents, neighbours, and those in the community I lived with light up in the face of the hope that 1994 was going to change the lives of all South Africans.
I cast my mind back to what that little boy saw, but 25 years later all I see is struggle and hardship for the majority of our people. The promise of freedom has not materialised into the promise of economic and social justice. As unemployment continues to escalate, inequality becomes a problem on a daily basis.
