Mr V M Manzini (DA-Mpumalanga) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:
(1) Whether she has been informed that a certain school (name
furnished) in Phalaborwa has abandoned the teaching of Xitsonga
and Sepedi; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so,
what are the relevant details;
(2) Whether she will launch an investigation into the matter; if
not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
(3) Whether parents of learners have been consulted before this
decision was taken; if not, why not; if so, what are the

REPLY
(1) No
The Department of Basic Education was not aware of the discontinuation
of Xitsonga and Sepedi at Fauna Primary School in Phalaborwa.
A senior official at the Limpopo Department of Education has been
contacted to enquire about this matter. We were informed that the
province is in the process of resolving this matter. However, the
report pertaining to the resolution is confidential.
(2) Yes
The Minister will set up a team to make further investigations
regarding the discontinuation of Xitsonga and Sepedi at Fauna Primary
School in Phalaborwa.
