Footnote 1: Figures displayed above excludes contract expiries
Footnote 2: Figures displayed above includes only permanently employed
educators
(b) Resignations recorded the highest number amongst all natures of
termination for the financial years under review. Retirements recorded
the second largest number of terminations whilst death recorded the
third largest. The number of educators who had been discharged due to
ill health has significantly declined.
(3) whether any plans are in place to attract retired teachers back into
the profession; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
There are no immediate plans from the Department of Basic Education to
do with the recruitment of retired teachers. However this sector has
developed an Educator Human Resource Planning Frame Work which details
how to deal with supply and demand of educators throughout the system
across the curriculum spectrum. The intention is to make sure that any
vacancy that might exist is filled as speedily as possible. This door
is open for any category teachers with the required qualifications.
