    NATIONAL COUNCIL PF PROVINCES FOR ORAL REPLY QUESTION 58 (No. 230) DATE OF PUBLICATION OF INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER: 08/05/2012 (INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER: 11/2011) 230. Ms D Z Rantho (ANC-EC) to ask the Minister of Basic Education: (1) Whether her department keeps a record of the schools across the country that receive scholar transport; if not, why not; if so, what is the total number of these schools; (2) whether all the schools in the provinces with learners who need scholar transport receive such transport; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details? CO302E Response: 1) Yes. The Department keeps record of schools that receive learner transport from reports provided by Provincial Education Departments. Currently the total number of schools receiving learner transport is 2384. 2) According to records received from provinces all learners in schools that applied for learner transport are being transported except for those that reside within the minimum distance from the nearest appropriate school as determined per province.
