Mr Z Mlenzana (COPE-EC) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:
Whether the (a) outstanding payments owed to scholar transport providers in
the Eastern Cape have been settled and (b) scholar transport programme is
now financially running smooth; if not, why not; if so, what are the
relevant details? CW493E
RESPONSE
a) A plan to pay all accruals is in place and costed. The information is
being verified by the internal audit team in the province and payments
will be effected as soon as the verification process has been
completed.
b) The scholar transport programme has been managed by the Provincial
Department of Transport since July 2011 and is running smoothly in
respect of financial aspects. Currently 54 406 learners in 644 schools
are provided with learner transport. All service providers were fully
paid in the last financial year.
