541. Dr P J Groenewald (FF Plus) to ask the Minister of Defence and
Military Veterans:â
(1) Whether a military tank that fell off a trailer during training
caused any serious damage to the road surface in the Van
Rheenenâs Pass; if so, (a) what did the cost of the damage
amount to and (b) who paid for it;
(2) (a) what did the recovery costs of the tank which had fallen off
amount to for the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) and (b) who
undertook the recovery ;
(3) whether any other tenders for the tankâs recovery were called
for; if not, why not; if so, (a) what tenders were received and
(b) what did the tender price amount to;
(4) whether she will make a statement on the matter? NW623E

1) No, the accident only caused minor surface damage
2) (a)The recovery costs comprised only of fuel to the amount of
R107Â 995.60 and allowances to the amount of R 12Â 164.40 afforded to
officials ,(b) The vehicles were recovered using SANDF capabilities
with minor initial assistance from civilian service provider to the
amount of R 27Â 542.40
