QUESTION FOR WRITTEN REPLY
118. Mr D A Worth (DA-FS) to ask the Minister of Energy:
Whether her department is investigating allegations that (a)
petrol and (b) diesel have been sold to certain provinces at an
inflated price in excess of the regulated pump; if not, what is
the position in this regard; if so, what are the relevant
details? CW145E.
Reply
a) In respect of overcharging of Petrol, the Department has
deployed Inspectors at Regional level to do retail site
visits to check on such practice among other things.
Inspections/visits around the days of price changes also
serve to deter potential offenders.
In line with the Petroleum Products Act, of 1977 as amended,
the Department will be introducing the issuing of spot fines
for offenders.
b) Since Diesel has always been regarded as a commercial fuel in
South Africa its price never got regulated at retail level.
