Mr M J R de Villiers (DA-WC) to ask the Minister of Health:
(1) What amount was spent on (a) medicine and (b) drugs that were used to
treat patients in (i) health care centres and (ii) hospitals in each
province in the 2011-12 financial year;
(2) (a) what was the delivery date for the (i) medicine and (ii) drugs in
each case and (b) who was responsible (i) for delivery in each case
and (ii) to monitor that supplies were delivered on schedule in each
case;
(3) whether any systems are in place to ensure that a quality service is
guaranteed; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

1) The words medicine and drugs are used interchangeably.

(2) (a) (i) & (ii) Deliveries are done continuously within
contractual lead time per item per order.
(b) (i) All suppliers on receipt of orders are responsible for
delivery.
(ii) Supplier monitoring is done by the individual provincial
warehouses.
(3) Quality of service is defined in the Special Conditions of Contract
and suppliers have a contractual obligation to comply.
