REPLY:
a) There is no separate process or procedure for asylum seekers persecuted
because of their sexual orientation. Processes and procedures relating
to the granting of asylum are established in line with sections 3 (a),
(b) and (c) of the Refugees Act, 1008 (Act No. 130 of 1998) which is
applicable to all asylum seekers irrespective of the nature of their
claims.
b) The Department cannot provide the requested statistics because the data
does not differentiate between reasons/grounds for asylum claims.
