(1) a) A total of approximately 610 families are earmarked to be moved to corrugated iron structures from Stjwetla informal settlement.
b) As part of the upgrading of the settlement, the City of Johannesburg is in the process of formalising the area. Due to the very high densities, the area needs to be de-densified to create space for the installation of electricity, roads and other infrastructure.
(c) The City of Johannesburg, in consultation with the community, identified key areas where new the services infrastructure should be installed. The 610 households were then identified as affected by this proposed de-densification exercise.
(d) No compensation will be paid for demolished structures as households will receive new subsidised as part of the development of the area.
(2) The vacated structures will be demolished.
(3) The City of Johannesburg is responsible for costs of relocation, temporary housing and permanent housing of the residents of Stjwetla.
(4) The City of Johannesburg identified relevant contractors as part of their supply chain processes to build the corrugated iron structures.
(5) The projected budget for the project is R40 million including the electrification of the area.
