* Mpumalanga Province indicated that 104 units were invaded during the current financial year (2015/16) in Belfast, under Emakhazeni Municipality. The illegal occupants/invaders are still in occupation of the units but the matter is now with Provincial Legal representatives who have already lodged a court application to have the illegal occupants evicted.
(2) (a) (i) 32 illegal occupants were successfully evicted in Kwa-Zulu/Natal during 2014/15 financial
year;

(4) Plan or strategy to prevent the illegal occupation of housing units:
The National and Provincial Departments of Human Settlements has in place a national policy, in terms of the National Housing Code, which regulates the approval and allocation of low-income housing opportunities to the qualifying beneficiaries. The set criterion, as stipulated in the National Housing Code, is further supported by:
(a) regular occupational audits which are conducted by the Monitoring and Evaluation team, in collaboration with the affected provincial departments;
(b) a centralized housing subsidy system/ database which is managed by the National Department of Human Settlements; and
(c) provincial policies, strategies and systems which are developed to augment and supplement the national policy.
