(1) Yes, a housing development project is being undertaken for the Kliptown Informal Settlement.
(a) The Greater Kliptown Development project comprises of six precincts, namely Kliptown Extensions 2, 6, 7 and 11, Pimville Zone 9 and Sector 2, which will be independently proclaimed as townships. Five of these precincts cater for mixed developments comprising of fully subsidised freehold housing units (also known as BNG houses) and Community Rental Units (CRU’s). Klipspruit Extension 2 will only cater for subsidised freehold housing units. It is estimated that in total 5 266 freehold subsidy units and 1 528 high density rental units will be provided.
(b) The upgrade programme has commenced and to date, 1 089 beneficiaries of the Kliptown Informal Settlement have been allocated BNG houses at Pimville Zone 9 and Klipspruit Extension 2. An estimated 200 BNG houses at Klipspruit Extension 11 will be allocated to the beneficiaries by the end of April 2016.
(2) Yes, the City of Johannesburg Greater Metropolitan Municipality will move beneficiaries from Kliptown Informal Settlement to a new housing development known as Klipspruit Extension 11. (a) A total of 926 beneficiaries and their families will benefit from this development. (b) The criteria used to select the beneficiaries are those who are registered on the Housing Demand Database as well as that beneficiaries must be residents from the Klipspruit Informal Settlement.
