INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER [No 1-2011]
DATE OF PUBLICATION: [10 February 2011]
162. Mrs A Steyn (DA) to ask the Minister of Rural Development and Land
Reform:
In terms of section 4 of the Extension of Security of Tenure Act, Act 62 of
1997, (a) how many applications were made for subsidies and (b) how much
has his department paid over for subsidies since the inception of the Act?
NW175E
THE MINISTER OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND LAND REFORM:
(a) 475 applications were received for subsidies as contemplated in the
Extension of Security of Tenure Act, 1997 (Act No 62 of 1997), to
protect farm workersâ and farm dwellersâ rights on the land that they
are occupying. It should be noted however that it is the Land Reform:
Provision of Land and Assistance Act, 1993 (Act No 126 of 1993) that
provides for funds to be set aside for off-farm settlement (where the
occupiers purchase a portion of the farm or the whole farm), as part
of securing the tenure rights of such occupiers.
(b) R351 357 738.00 has been provided as financial grant assistance in
terms of the Provision of Land and Assistance Act, 1993.
