314. Mr M W Makhubela (COPE-Limpopo) to ask the Minister of Police:
Whether he will provide details relating to the 768 reported cases that
were brought against police officers since 1 January 2009 as reported in
the media (name furnished) on 9 August 2011; if not, why not; if so, (a)
how old is each of the specified cases, (b) how many police officers (i)
are implicated in these cases and (ii) have been suspended (aa) with full
pay and (bb) without pay, (c) how many of these cases have been finalised,
(d) what were the outcomes of such cases and (e) how many police officers
have been discharged from the SA Police Service following the outcomes?

REPLY:
To ensure the member is supplied with accurate and credible data, I have
tasked the Civilian Secretariat for Police to audit the status and progress
regarding criminal cases laid and the correlate this with the specific
action taken by the SAPS. Once this audit is completed I will make
information to the specific member of Parliament.
