(1) Whether the SA Police Service (SAPS) is actively implementing a well-coordinated strategy to (a) closely monitor roads leading to and from shopping malls and business areas using any and all of the many means available to them, (b) intensify the setting up of effective road blocks at frequent intervals, supported by sniffer dogs, to uncover unlicenced firearms and narcotics, (c) use helicopters to pursue armed robbers, (d) have the ready means to close off a road at short notice to block escape, and (e) use radio stations and social media to alert people of robbers and their getaway vehicle(s); if not, why not; if so, what (i) are the relevant details in each case and (ii) is the rate of success in each case; (2) whether he will make a statement on police measures regarding armed robberies to assuage the rising fears and concerns of South Africans of all walks of life?
