20. Mr J M G Bekker (DA-WC) to ask the Minister of Public Enterprises:
(1) What are the details pertaining to the (a) three rail line concessions
for the Eastern Cape, (b) specific route from start to final destination,
(c) capacity of each line, (d) date of commencement and (e) cost of each
project;
(2) Whether the Sterkstroom and Maclear rail line will form part of the
concession; if not, why not; if so, (a) what will the capacity of the line
be, (b) when will the project be implemented, (c) what will the costs
involved be, (d) what is the envisaged date of completion and (e) what are
the further relevant details? CW21E
Reply:
1) (a-e) The first three branchline concessions proposed does not pertain
to the
Eastern Cape.
(2) Sterkstroom â Maclear branchline is not part of the first three
branchlines proposed for concessioning
(a) A comprehensive study will be undertaken and a business case developed
which will inform the design and capacity, operational requirements.
(b-d) The timelines, costs and dates for the projects will be informed by
the parties involved and outcome of the study and comprehensive business
case.
(e) None.
