370. Mr D Joseph (DA-WC) to ask the Minister of Public Enterprises:
(a) What is the capacity requirement for each of the two rail lines that
will be transporting coal to (i) East London and (ii) the Coega Industrial
Development Zones as part of the coal mining development project in the
Eastern Cape, (b) what will be the investment costs for his department in
this regard and (c) when will these developments commence?

Reply:
According to Transnet:
(a)(i) Two million tons of coal per annum.
(a)(ii) Eight to ten million tons of coal per annum.
(b) There will be no investment required from the Department of Public
Enterprises.
(c) The development of these projects will commence once their feasibility
and bankability have been concluded and the Mining House and Developer have
successfully concluded contracts with Transnet.
