DATE OF PUBLICATION: 16 AUGUST 2013
DATE OF REPLY: 2 SEPTEMBER 2013
Mr K P Sithole (IFP) asked the Minister of Public Works:
(a) When will the State asset register and (b) a comprehensive audit of all
leases be completed?
NW2444E
Reply:
The Minister of Public Works:
(a) The Department of Public Works has conducted an extensive
reconciliation of immovable assets in its Asset Register against Deeds
Registry data. The reconciliation exercise was conducted in conjunction
with all national and provincial custodians and has achieved a substantial
improvement in the completeness assertion, as evidenced by Audit Report for
2012/13 financial year. The key milestone is to achieve a GRAP compliant
Immovable Asset Register in the 2015/16 financial year. In order to achieve
this milestone, the Department will conduct a physical verification of
immovable assets and address the management assertions (e.g. property
valuations) in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 financial years.
(b) The final report on the lease audit is being prepared by the service
provider and is expected to be submitted to the Department by 31 October
2013. It is then that the Department of Public Works will be in a position
to report on the deliverables of the entire lease review project.
