Mr J F Smalle (DA) to ask the Minister of Trade and Industry:
(1) Whether he has been informed that a Greek Company, Intralot has
partial ownership of the National Lottery Operator, Gidani; if so,
what share of Gidani is owned by the said company;
(2) whether the National Lotteries Board was aware of this situation at
the time of awarding Gidani the right to become the National Lottery
Operator; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so,
(3) whether Gidani is still eligible to be the National Lottery Operator
as a fully compliant Black Economic Empowerment company; if not, why
not; if so, what are the relevant details? NW1313E
Response:
1) One of Gidaniâs shareholders is Intralot South Africa (Pty) Ltd, a
bona fide South African company, which has an 18% shareholding in
Gidani.
2) Yes, the shareholders of all bidders for the National Lottery licence
were declared, together with the extent of their shares, in their
submissions.
3) Yes, Gidani has met the requirements set in the licence and is still
eligible according to the NLB which oversees the monitoring and
compliance with the licence conditions.
