Mrs H Lamoela (DA) to ask the Minister of Social Development:
Whether the Government intends to provide humanitarian assistance to Libya;
if not, why not; if so, (a) what is the nature of the assistance to be
given, (b) when will the assistance be given and (c) what steps will be
taken to ensure that the assistance reaches people in need?

REPLY:
No,
(a) My Department will be guided by resolutions taken by government for
provision of humanitarian assistance to a foreign country.
(b) In the event that government resolves to provide humanitarian
assistance to Libya the Department of Cooperative Governance and the
Department of International Relations will be approached to coordinate
Government Sector Departmentsâ humanitarian assistance efforts.
(c) In this instance no such decision has been made to provide humanitarian
assistance to Lybia.
