596. Mrs H Lamoela (DA) to ask the Minister of Police:
(1) How many children have been reported missing in each province (a) in
the (i) 2009-10, (ii) 2010-11 and (iii) 2011-12 financial years and (b)
since 1 April 2012;
(2) howmany of these children were found (a) dead and (b) alive in each
case?

REPLY:
(1)(a)+(b)(i to iii) The number of children reported missing in each
province in the 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 financial
years and since 1 April 2012 are indicated in the attached
table.

(2)(a) The required information is not immediately available. To
obtain the information would be time consuming and would necessitate
the redeployment of police personnel to verify every case docket
relevant to the period in question.
(b) The following table reflects the total children under the age
of 18 found per province for the respective financial years. These
figures represent the total missing childrenâs âcasesâ cancelled and
does not distinguish between found dead or alive.
