976. Mr J H van der Merwe (IFP) to ask the Minister of Rural Development
and Land Reform:
1) What percentage of (a) land in each province is in possession of or
under the control of (i) the State or its organs, (ii) private owners
(iii) traditional authorities and (b) persons reside on land that is
in the possession of or under the control of ((i) the State or its
organs, (ii) private owners and (iii) traditional authorities? NW1094E
THE MINISTER OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND LAND REFORM:
(a)(i)-(iii) A desktop analysis on information from both the cadastral
surveys Management and Deed Registration Branches was completed and
revealed the following:

(b) (i) The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, through
its Cadastral Surveys Management and Deeds Registration
Branches, only keeps information relation to surveyed and
registered land parcels. It would be impossible at this stage to
provide the information required. A state land audit is
envisaged, whereafter this information would be available. This
audit will commence in May 2011 and will be completed by
December 2014. The project entails physical inspection of each
land parcel.
(ii) The department can only provide information relating to ownership.
(iii) To be determined during the land audit discussed above.
