1. Yes, the department applies the DPSA “Policy and Procedure on the Management of Sexual Harassment” dated 30 September 2013, as is. This policy provides in Section 6.1 that the scope of application applies to all National Departments as listed under Schedule 1 of the Public Service Act, No 103 of 1994 (as amended).

(i) How are reports investigated?
The Department has designated one of its official as a Sexual Harassment Adviser to whom grievances or sexual harassment complaints are lodged. Upon receipt of sexual harassment allegations, the Director-General appoints an investigating officer to obtain all the relevant facts about the allegations, gather evidence and to make recommendations regarding the initiation of the disciplinary processes to the Director-General.

The range of sanctions that the department applies are provided for in Section 19.4 of the Policy. (Counselling; verbal warning; written warning; final written warning; suspension/fine; demotion as an alternative to dismissal and finally dismissal).
