Mrs M A A Njobe (Cope) to ask the Minister of Tourism:
(1) What (a) programmes are currently being implemented to improve
the tourist experience at points of entry for visitors to the
2010 World Cup Tournament, (b) is the time frame for completion
in each case and (c) is the budget for each programme;
(2) whether there are any measurable expected outcomes for the
programmes; if not, what strategy is in place to avoid fruitless
expenditure; if so, what are the relevant details?

1033. THE MINISTER OF TOURISM ANSWERS:
1 (a) The department has developed a tourism service excellence
initiative which is aimed at improving service excellence in all
the service touch points, including the ports of entry.
1 (b) This will be achieved by the end of the 2009/10 financial
year.
1 (c) R6 million has been budgeted for this year.
(2) Training of staff at ports of entry on customer care and know
your country modules.
Development of a tourism spatial viewer to improve provision of
information.
