905. Ms D Kohler-Barnard (DA) to ask the Minister of Public Works:
(1) (a) How many SA Police Service (SAPS) projects (i) awaited
approval from her department in the (aa) 2008-09 and (bb) 2009-
10 financial years and (ii) have been awaiting approval since 1
April 2010 and (b) why have these projects not been approved;
(2) how many (a) SAPS projects have been approved by her department
(i) in the (aa) 2008-09 and (bb) 2009-10 financial years and
(ii) during the period 1 April 2010 up to the latest specified
date for which information is available and (b) of these
projects have yet to commence;
(3) with regard to the projects that have been approved but have not
commenced, (a) when was each project approved, (b) when is each
project expected to commence and (c) what is the location and
address of each project;
(4) (a) how many SAPS projects are currently being handled by her
department, (b) what is the location and address of each
project, (c) when have these projects been approved, (d) when
did each project commence, (e) what is the projected date for
completion of each project and (f) what is the proposed cost of

The Department handles both planned and capital works projects.
1. Planned Maintenance has a total of 374 projects that awaited approval
from 2008/09 to 2010/11 financial years which could not be funded.
Capital Works
Approval of capital works projects is not done by the department of
Public Works but by user departments.
All approved planned maintenance and capital works projects for 2008/09,
2009/10 and 2010/11 have commenced as scheduled.
PLANNED MAINTENANCE
2. There is a total of 665 planned maintenance projects funded from
2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11 financial years.
CAPITAL WORKS
The approval of capital works projects is not done by the department
of Public Works but by user departments.
3. All approved planned maintenance and capital works projects for
2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11 have commenced as scheduled
