REPLY:
The Minister of Transport:
(1) (a) and (b)
The preferred supplier that is used by the Department of Transport
(DoT) for the hiring of vehicles is PhakisaWorld Fleet Solutions. A
transversal Public Private Partnership (PPP) Agreement was entered
into with PhakisaWorld in 2006 for a period of five years, and the
Department elected to participate in this contract since its
inception.
(2) The contract is fixed for a period of five years and is due to expire
in November 2011.
(3) (a)
The Minister and Deputy Minister and their respective Private Offices
procure vehicles from both PhakisaWorld and the appointed Travel Agent
that services the Ministry, Chanti Travel (Pty) Ltd.
(b) PhakisaWorld Fleet Solutions is used as the preferred service
provider under a transversal PPP Agreement in which the DoT
participates. Chanti Travel (Pty) Ltd is preferred by the Transport
Ministry and is used under a transversal contract between the KwaZulu-
Natal Provincial Treasury and Chanti Travel (Pty) Ltd, in which the
DoT participates. Neither of the service providers have exclusive
rights to provide hired vehicles to the Department.
