KES has two offices in Msinga. In the two offices, KES has employed about 40 people on a permanent basis - mostly to do maintenance. People employed are from Msinga, including 8 women, who were identified by the municipality. Mr Ngcobo explained that, the system is designed in such a way that if one is not paying it switches off automatically. KES confirmed that Msinga Municipality contributes (from the FBE) R34 and the beneficiaries pay the difference. KES noted that they are also exploring other alternative energy sources that can be rolled out in the future - not just SHSs.
