Hon Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that South Africa has added four more beaches to its Blue Flag collection and the country now has a total of 27 Blue Flag beaches;
2) further notes that the Blue Flag is an international standard which gives local and foreign visitors the assurance that the beaches are clean, environmentally sound and safe;
3) recognises that the names of the 17 Western Cape, 6 KwaZulu-Natal and 4 Eastern Cape beaches were announced at South Africa's Blue Flag Beach seasonal launch held this year at Keaton-on-Sea in the Eastern Cape; 4) further recognises that the Blue Flag programme is owned and run by a non-government, non-profit organisation called the Foundation for Environmental Education; and
5) acknowledges that the programme works towards sustainable development of beaches and Marinas through 14 strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, safety, cleanliness, parking, lifesaving services, provision of amenities, environmental management and maintenance of the environmental standards.
Agreed to.
