3. The issue of disparities in remuneration and conditions of service is not only peculiar to the Office of the Public Protector but has also been raised by other Chapter 9 institutions. The Committee is informed that legislation is planned to require the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers to make recommendations relating to the salaries, allowances and benefits of the Public Protector and members of any commission provided for in the Constitution, as required in terms of section 219(5) of the Constitution. The Committee welcomes this legislation and urges that it be brought as soon as possible.
