The demographic figures I have just highlighted clearly indicate that the youth population will continue to grow in absolute numbers. It is therefore undisputed that young people deserve a bigger share of development investment. Addressing youth issues should therefore remain salient for the global community, African governments, the SADC region and the South African community. This is essential, considering the fact that the majority of the youth account for the largest share of the working population and the hurdles they experience need to be attended to while they are in their youth and before they enter adulthood.
