Mrs G M Borman (ANC) to ask the Minister of Higher Education and Training:
Whether (a) his department and (b) the entities reporting to him have
implemented any energy-saving (i) practices or (ii) devices for buildings,
offices and boardrooms in the 2010-11 financial year; if not, why not, in
each case; if so, what are the relevant details in each case?

REPLY:
a) The department has implemented energy saving (i) practices (ii) devices
for the building and boardrooms in the 2010/11 financial year.
i) Practices
The department nominated officials to attend training which was conducted
by the Department of Public Works.
Lights are switched off in all offices where there is sufficient natural
sun light.
All lights in the offices are switched off at night, during weekends and
holidays and only security lights are switched on at strategic check points
during the night.
ii) Â Â Â Devices
Energy saving bulbs and tubes were installed in the boardrooms and
conference rooms
All electrical devices/appliances/equipment are switched off when officials
knock off, or when they take leave and when they leave their offices for a
longer period during the day.
b) The information on public entities is not yet available and will be
forwarded once it has been collated.
