Mr M Waters (DA) to ask the Minister of Health:
(1) Whether the routine monitoring of maternal health care programmes
takes into account (a) all the emergency obstetric care indicators and
(b) the United Nations (UN) process indicators, as they are widely
known; if not, (i) why not, in each case, (ii) when will they be
monitored and (iii) what are the implications of not routinely
monitoring these indicators;
(2) whether the UN Special Rapporteur has indicated these indicators as
essential; if so, when?

REPLY:
(1) (a)-(b) Yes.
(2) The current UN Special Rapporteur on Physical and Mental Health, Mr.
Anand Grove, has not made a direct pronouncement on the indicators for
Emergency Obstetric Care (EmOC).
