Mr DC Smiles (DA) to ask the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans:
1. Whether her Department has transferred any employment benefits as
claimed by a certain former member of the Ciskei Defence Force (CDF)
(name and details furnished); if not, why not; if so, (a) what benefits
have been transferred to the said person and (b) how much time has
elapsed between the date on which his claim was lodged and the date the
benefits were granted;
2. What process does her Department follow when processing benefit claims
forms other former members of the CDF.
RESPONSE
1) (a) and (b): The Ciskei Defence Force (CDF) member referred to has
been dishonourably discharged from the SANDF on 19 February 2007. This
member was paid by the Government Employees Pension on 09 June 2009.
An amount of R143817.35 was paid into the Post Bank Account Number
69138485.
2) The Department of Defence only manages the preparation of the of the
pension withdrawal documents and the National Treasury (Pension
Administration) is responsible for the calculation and payment of
pension benefits. In terms of the Rules of the Pension Act No. 17135
dated 19 April 1996 all pension and associated benefits are client
confidential and cannot be revealed to the third party.
