REPLY: QUESTION 1
The SANDF went back to the borders in April 2010 under Operation Corona to
take over from the Police. It had to re-establish its own operational
procedures as a matter of urgency and embark on the job at hand immediately
when it took over. We are proud that those procedures established have led
to a quick turnaround in terms of re-establishing itself as the guardian of
our countryâs borders. The deployment of the SANDF in other areas is
continuing in the same in that spirit. No structure of any kind established
by the SANDF in terms of the Border Management Agency.
a. The SANDF utilized its Force Structure Elements (FSE) in terms of its
Joint Force Employment Strategy (JFES) under OPERATION CORONA for
borderline patrol and safeguarding within the BMA concept.
b-c. All the subsequent questions are not applicable since they emanate
from the major question answered above.
2. There is no need for any Ministerial statement on the matter.
