Question 1130 for Written Reply: National Assembly, Mr M J Ellis (DA) to
ask the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries:
(1) Whether her department is currently involved in a process of creating a
unified database of certificates held by boat skippers; if not, why not; if
so, what are the relevant details;
(2)(a) what is the administrative charge for skippers that currently hold
certificates of competence to operate recreational sport fishing boats to
convert these certificates to the new official certificate for purposes of
inclusion on the database and (b) how was this charge determined;
(3) how will the charge of converting the certificates for inclusion on the
database be used;
(4) whether her department has commissioned any private entity to run this
process of setting up the national database; if not, why not; if so, what
are the relevant details? NW1253E
REPLY:
This question should be redirected to the Minister of Transport who is
responsible for the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) that
manages skippersâ certificates. This function does not resort under
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
