PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION NO: 379( NW413E)
Mr W M Madisha (Cope) to ask the Minister of Labour:
Whether her department has instituted systems in overall financial
management and monitoring in light of these having been found wanting
as reported in the Auditor-General's 2009-10 Report on National
Outcomes (details furnished); if not, why not; if so, what are the
relevant details? NW413E
MINISTER OF LABOUR RESPONSE:
The Department of Labour has developed an audit action plan to monitor
controls to address the Auditor-Generalâs findings during the 2009/10
financial year. In addition the following measures were also introduced:
⢠Training was provided to ensure that possible material misstatements
are detected prior to the commencement of the audit.
⢠Monthly reconciliations are performed for all account balances and
these are monitored at the CFOâs monthly management meetings.
⢠The Department has appointed a Chief Operations Officer (COO) who is
responsible for the monitoring and reporting on performance against
predetermined objectives. This will result in accurate reporting,
continuous monitoring of achievement of measurable objectives and
overall compliance with the reporting requirements of predetermined
objectives.
⢠The action plan is provided to the Auditor-General and National
Treasury on a monthly and quarterly basis, respectively.
