Mr J F Smalle (DA) to ask the Minister of Trade and Industry:
(1) How many companiesâ value-added tax (VAT) returns have not been paid
due to the hijacking of company details at the Companies and
Intellectual Property Registration Office (CIPRO) in 2010;
(2) (a) which companies have had their details compromised in 2010 and
(b) which of these companies have not received their VAT returns for
2010;
(3) what is (a) the monetary value of the VAT returns that have not been
paid out in each instance and (b) the total monetary value that has
not been paid for all the companies? NW842E
Response:
(1) The South African Revenue Service (SARS) deals with matters relating
to value-added tax (VAT) returns and will be in a position to provide
the required information.
(2)(a) According to Cipro, there were one hundred and twenty-three
(123) complaints received last year for both companies and close
corporations regarding the change of details.
(2)(b) SARS will be able to provide a response in this regard.
(3)(a)-(b) SARS will be able to provide responses in this regard.
